Our university is an established leader in the field of environmental research and training and is committed to replicating this success in how we care for our campus and surrounding environment.
We take sustainability seriously, at both a local and global level. We are investing heavily in our infrastructure and personnel to reduce negative environmental impacts and capitalise on internal expertise. We are continuing to reduce our carbon intensity despite a growing estate.
Biodiversity and Grounds
more...UEA's 145 hectare campus has many varied habitats, including five County Wildlife Sites, and is home to over 5,700 species. 50 hectares are also within the Higher Level Stewardship (HLS) scheme to deliver significant environmental benefits over 10 years.
Our Buildings
more...The original design for the University of East Anglia campus, by Denys Lasdun, allowed for a merging of the natural with the built environment. Our campus now balances the 1960s concrete legacy buildings with newer, low-carbon additions.
Recycling and Waste
more...As a university we are committed to reducing our waste output and increasing the amount we recycle.
Net Zero UEA
more...Together as a University, as a leader in climate research and collaborating with our global and local partners we need to ensure we have a workplace and world fit for a dynamic and sustainable future.
Sustainable Food
more...The food we consume accounts for around 30% of the UK’s carbon footprint, according to Sustain, WWF and the Food Climate Research Network. Universities have a significant role to play in the food chain, both as procurers and providers of food to over 2 million students each year.
Sustainable Procurement
more...Over 60% of an organisation’s carbon emissions are generated through purchasing products and services. We recognise this fact and we are committed to making purchasing decisions that minimise resource use and waste disposal impacts.
Travel
more...Travel is a large contributor to carbon emissions. There are a variety of sustainable ways and initiatives that we support for you to sustainably travel to and from campus.
