We’re a world-leading centre for research, teaching and practice, using critical analysis to create a fairer planet.

We take an interdisciplinary approach to the study of global development, whilst also offering our students the opportunity to specialise in one of a number of disciplinary perspectives on global challenges in development.

Our students join a close-knit community committed to a fairer society for everyone, working together on a beautiful campus.

All our courses are offered with the option of a year-long work placement or a study abroad year. You can also do a short-term work placement as part of our standard three-year courses.

Our high-quality teaching is underpinned by our excellent research, for which we are ranked number one in the UK amongst development studies departments (UK Research Excellence Framework, or REF).
