Statistics Research Group

Statistics is all about uncovering the stories hidden within data. It involves analysing and interpreting information, testing conjectures, and making informed decisions when faced with uncertainty. Whether we are exploring trends or addressing real-world problems, statistics provide the tools to understand and navigate our complex world. This makes statistics as essential as reading and writing.

Our research in statistics focuses on building a solid foundation in computational and theoretical aspects of statistics. We actively seek to enhance our understanding by examining how these elements interact with various disciplines, such as medicine, economics, or finance. This fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative applications of statistical methods.

We are a team composed of theoretical statisticians, computational statisticians, medical statisticians, and econometricians. We focus on current challenges in statistics, where there is a tendency toward more complex models in higher dimensions with more parameters. We develop complex-structured models, inferential procedures, and computational tools for high-dimensional data in biostatistical, environmental, and econometrical applications.

The Statistics group actively explores diverse areas of statistics, with a focus on advancing research in:

  • Copula modelling and inference

  • Financial econometrics and econometric theory

  • Experimetrics

  • Psychometrics

  • Machine learning and AI-focused statistical learning

  • Statistical physics

  • Multiple Time Series Analysis

  • Multivariate meta-analysis

  • Bayesian inference

  • Causal inference

  • Development of statistical software

  • Clinical trials
