Are you looking for a career where you can inspire, motivate, and unlock the full potential of those around you?
Choosing a career in teaching enables you to make a positive difference and transform young lives.
When you study your PGCE at UEA, you'll join a friendly community of trainee teachers from all walks of life. Your rewarding career as a teacher begins here.
Why become a teacher?
Transform young lives
Whether you choose to teach Primary or Secondary children, UEA teachers make a real difference. Our work with schools, multi-academy trusts and other partners in education includes a focus on making a difference to the lives of children and young people who are disadvantaged in the education system. Working with our partners, we help you to understand educational inequality and how you can contribute to positive, lasting change within and beyond East Anglia.
You will learn to use theory and research to continually improve your teaching, with assignments that directly relate to your classroom experience. These assignments will help you become a knowledgeable, skilled and reflective teacher.
Benefit from tax-free bursaries and scholarships when you train at UEA
The Department for Education offers tax-free training bursaries and scholarships of up to £30,000 for certain subjects. You won't need to pay these back and can receive them alongside a tuition fee loan, maintenance loan and in addition to any scholarship you are offered by UEA.
Learn from leading experts
Teacher training at UEA enables you to gain QTS (qualified teacher status) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), with 90 Master’s credits. These qualifications provide a solid foundation for the rest of your teaching career.
We foster a stimulating and challenging environment for you – empowering you to find your teaching style, with personal support from expert academics with years of teaching experience. They will prepare you for teaching in a wide variety of schools and support you throughout your course. They're in your corner as you start your teaching career too, championing you as you develop your own identity as a teacher.

This diversity enhances your professional growth and creates supportive friendships and working connections which will last well beyond your course.
We work closely with schools, academies and Early Career Teacher (ECT) induction bodies to provide support and training opportunities during your ECT year.
After graduating, you can continue to develop your career via our Master’s and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes. You can also top-up your Master's level credits to a full Master's degree with the MA in Professional Practice in Education.
Our free online course - Professional Development for Early Career Teachers - is designed to help newly-qualified teachers improve their teaching skills and manage workload.
