L-R: Phil Steele and Sam Jeffery
The University of East Anglia has today (Wednesday 8 February) announced the start of a new strategic relationship with Norwich City Football Club.
The relationship will further enhance opportunities for staff and student study visits, whilst also opening new pathways for students into potential employment and placements at the football club.
As part of the club’s wider relationship with Brazilian side Coritiba, UEA will also facilitate a year-long post-graduate scholarship for a Brazilian student. The scholarship will also include an option to complete an eight-week work placement at the football club.
Sam Jeffery, commercial director at Norwich City, said: “This is a really exciting moment for both our organisations. This partnership has taken a long time to formulate and finalise, which is indicative of the wide breadth of scope that it incorporates. A wider range of departments across both organisations will benefit from this strategic alliance.
“Particular thanks must go to Phil Steele, director of sport and commercial services at UEA, for his tireless efforts in driving this home. We’re really looking forward to working closely with our counterparts at UEA to make the community of Norfolk better every day.
“In addition, and as part of our wider strategic alliance with Brazilian club Coritiba FC, we’re also really excited to offer the Norwich City and Coritiba Football Club Brazil UEA Scholarship. This will allow for a Brazilian student to enjoy the first-class educational opportunities that UEA provides, and a pathway to a placement at Norwich City once their studies are completed.
“Thanks to David Girling, director of postgraduate admissions in the School of International Development – UEA, and Lucas Mendes Pedrozo at Coritiba FC for their support and passion to bring this to life.”
Paul Dobson, pro-vice chancellor for social sciences at UEA, said: “This is a fantastic example of joint working, bringing together UEA and Norwich City Football Club to further relationships with Coritiba. As well as a scholarship, this is the start of an important alliance which will see us working more closely with the Club on a range of projects in the coming years.”
Phil Steele, UEA's director of sports and commercial services, said: “We’re delighted to be working closely with Norwich City Football Club. The club plays such an important role in our city and we’re pleased that we are now able to offer this scholarship opportunity here at UEA.
“We look forward to working with NCFC on a range of initiatives in future to benefit our students, staff and the wider community.”
