Student projects are an excellent and under-utilised resource for bridging the gap between industry and academia. On the one hand, students are an extremely useful and cost-effective resource for small businesses who lack the budget and the know-how to commission or conduct their own research. On the other hand, engaging students in ‘real world’ projects provides them with invaluable practical experience and an opportunity to put into practice some of the things they learn in the classroom.
October 2016 saw the launch of our new final year module on shopper marketing, in which each of the students is allocated a business sponsor from our supplier network and tasked with developing a shopper marketing plan for the business, which will be presented to their sponsor at the end of the Spring term. In this way we are providing additional support for our network members and invaluable experience for our students.
