Armed Conflict and Urban Services
The relationship between water, war, and human well-being is being explored in detail through the Urban Servcies project of the International Committee of the Red Cross. Coordinated by Mark Zeitoun with Heather Elaydi, Charles Thompson and Ruth MacDougall, the work has identified the methods, tools and data required for the evaluation of the impact of armed conflict on essential services in urban areas. The research has led to a call for a change in course of conventional relief and ‘development’ programming, with implications for agencies, donors, and effective International Humanitarian Law [report summary, full report] .
