You are expected to dress as you would for a job interview.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes you may bring someone with you, but they will not be able to accompany you into the interview.

Can I bring my portfolio/additional references to the interview?

No, any additional references and evidence of academic ability will have been requested and supplied prior to interview.

What will the interview consist of?

Your interview will last around 45 minutes. The interview panel consists of three interviewers - a university lecturer, a social work practitioner or manager and a carer or user of social care services. The interview will cover your academic background, relevant experience and interest in social work. We also ask candidates about their personal background and circumstances, this is because we have to ensure that candidates are safe to work with vulnerable adults and children, and are able to cope with the pressures of a career in social work.

You will also discuss your Admissions Essay during the interview. This essay will be submitted to the Admissions Office no later than 1 week before your interview. Admissions Essay guidance will be provided in the invitation to interview email.

All interviewers have signed an undertaking to respect confidentiality and equal opportunities. There will be time for you to ask any questions you may have regarding the requirements of the course. Please check our Social Work Admissions Information for ideas about preparing for your interview.
