Can I meet Greg James? Sophie, Cambridge

Our Answer:

We're very proud of our alumni, and Greg James is a shining example! Graduating with a degree in Drama, he's worked his way up from UEA's student radio, Livewire 1350AM, to hosting prime slots on BBC's Radio 1.

We can't guarantee you'll meet the man himself, but Greg's made frequent pop-up appearances at UEA since he graduated, so hang around here long enough and you might be lucky!

Sightings on or near campus include when he received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters, at the opening of the newly revamped Post Office (as part of the UEA 50th Anniversary celebrations), at the Radio 1 Big Weekend, and when he ran through campus in the final stage of his Gregathlon for Sport Relief. He is also known to have DJ'ed on the odd club night on campus. He loved his time at UEA so much he just can't keep away!

Want a few random Greg facts?:

  • His first radio broadcast was on Hospital Radio aged 14, but nobody heard it because the transmitter was broken!
  • He loves Rugby and Cricket, and used to play Cricket for Hertfordshire Under-18's
  • Greg is a charity ambassador for The Stroke Association and The Lord's Taverners, and regularly gets involved in other fundraising events.
