Your University Questions, Answered.

Do you have postgraduate distance learning programmes in Creative Writing? Sarah, Edinburgh

Our Answer:

UEA has a global reputation for its Creative Writing courses and these have proven a fantastic platform for many writers who are widely known today.

With this is mind, UEA offer a part-time MA Creative Writing Crime Fiction course which allows postgraduate students to study via an online platform, with just three short-term residential trips to UEA’s campus per year. The Crime Fiction course gives you the opportunity to fit your study in around your own lifestyle, without having to leave jobs or relocate – it’s tailored to how and where you want to learn.

However, because it’s not entirely online based, the Crime Fiction course will allow you to connect and interact with other students during the three visits you’ll make to campus in the form of workshops, seminars and masterclasses. This is a fantastic opportunity to study a course in one of the most popular genres of literature today as well as in a city named as England’s first UNESCO City of Literature.

With visits from notable Crime writers, editors and literary agents occurring during the May visits you’ll make to UEA, this is an opportunity to engage with other like-minded people whilst simultaneously helping you to explore where your Creative Writing course could take you.

For more information on applying, fees and funding, and entry requirements for this course, please go to our information page and go to the essential information section.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a course that can be studied purely through online resources, you’ll be pleased to hear that UEA have teamed up with the Writers’ Centre Norwich (WCN) to allow students to study Creative Writing this way.

The online courses which are run by UEA and WCN will allow you to choose the course that best suits you, whether that’s a beginner’s course or something a little more advanced. Similarly, you can take courses in both fiction and poetry depending on what appeals most to you.

You’ll receive feedback on your work and also a Certificate of Attendance from UEA upon your completion of the course. For more information on fees, course details and the experience you will embark on, then please visit our Creative Writing Online Courses page.

We hope this information will help you in making your decision and we wish you good luck!
