Designed to support students to transition into higher education, Preparing for Health Sciences aims to provide an insight into studying one or more of the following subjects at university:
- Operating Department Practice
- Occupational Therapy
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Paramedic Science
- Physiotherapy
- Nursing
- Midwifery
The project will initially work with those intending on making an application to University. The project will then support applicants to make a successful transition to their University studies by preparing you for the reality of taught programmes and encouraging participation in extra-curricular events.
PROGRAMME OF EVENTS
We completely appreciate that you may not be able to attend all of the events, but we’d like to strongly encourage participating in the following series of events when you can:

Health Sciences Application support Take part in a mock interview which will mirror the interview process of getting into a Health Sciences course. The session will include some preparatory guidance and will support you through the process of being involved in an interview. By attending the mock interview, you will get rid of some of those nerves and use the feedback provided to develop your interview skills. | November – January 2021

The Preparing for Health Sciences Module The eight-week online module will introduce you to several key academic literacies or skills that will help you in your transition into university. The module will ease you into what it is like to learn in a blended learning environment, and you will have the opportunity to get used to the online learning software. | May 2021 Exact date to be confirmed | Online |
Online Mentoring Be matched with a current student mentor who you can communicate with throughout the year. This is your opportunity to ask questions about everything from the application process to navigating the first day. | Throughout the programme | Online |
We will be hosting additional events throughout the year that you are involved in the program and will keep you up to date once you have joined. For example:

AM I ELIGIBLE?
To take part in Preparing for Health Sciences, you need to be currently studying an Access course, preparing for University entry in September 2021. We are looking for 30 participants to join the programme.

Are there any costs to participate?
No. All costs including transport (if required) will be met by UEA.
Do I have to attend all sessions?
No. We’d like you to attend as many sessions as possible, but we completely appreciate this may not be feasible for those with caring responsibilities, work arrangements etc. We’d love to have you come along to any of the sessions you are able to attend.
