This is University: UEA Summer School
Experience life at university this summer!
This is University: UEA Summer School is a free, week-long, online event for Year 12 and Level 3 Year 1 students, where attendees receive exceptional advice and guidance from current staff and students at the UEA. This year, our virtual programme will run from the 27 - 31 July 2020.
Register your interest in our programme below!
Why should I attend?
Our unique summer school will prepare students with essential skills and knowhow for university, while also introducing many of the innovative and remarkable experiences on offer at UEA. In response to the latest Government and Public Health England advice during the COVID-19 pandemic, this year we are offering a virtual alternative to our original residential programme**.
Each day of the school, our live sessions and Q&A's will concern one of five main topics, providing excellent support towards your journey to higher education and a taste of UEA. Our fantastic current students, academics, and staff will be around throughout the school to guide you and answer any questions you may have. You'll leave with a better idea of what it is like to be a university student and improved confidence to be able to pursue your passions.
Monday 27 July: Applying to University – Learn about UCAS and writing your personal statement.
Tuesday 28 July: Student Finance – Learn about Student Finance England (SFE) and budgeting while at university.
Wednesday 29 July: Study Skills & Research – Learn essential study skills that will help you excel at university and have a go at your own research.
Thursday 30 July: Student’s Union & Independent Living – Learn top tips on living independently at university and get to know what student life is like.
Friday 31 July: Undergraduate Subjects & Admissions – Have a look at UEA’s undergraduate subjects and take the opportunity to talk to our Admissions Team.
In addition to our live sessions and Q&A's, you will gain access to a wide variety of online resources and be invited to take part in daily projects throughout the week. We will release further details in our event programme nearer to the event.
** Our residential programme involves a two-day stay at our award-winning campus, packed with study sessions, social activities, and insight into everything you need to know before becoming an undergraduate. We hope for its return in 2021.
How do I attend?
You can attend the entire programme or select days of the week that suit you. None of the live sessions are compulsory, however we recommend attending to get direct advice and guidance from our students and staff and ask questions. You’ll be able to attend live sessions and Q&A's through hyperlinks that will be listed online; we’ll also send the appropriate links to you via email first thing on each day of the programme.
There’s no need to download any additional software, simply click on the link 10 minutes before the scheduled start time, so you can check your computer settings. If possible, we recommend using Chrome in incognito mode. Please note that your browser may ask for permission to access your microphone – if you approve, it gives us the option to hear from you if you would like to ask a question in person (alternatively, you can type them in the chat).
