FURTHER INFORMATION

The University of Calgary (or UCalgary) is a public research university located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Founded in 1966 (after operating as the Calgary branch of the University of Alberta since 1945) the University of Calgary is composed of 14 faculties and more than 85 research institutes and centres.

UCalgary has an active Students' Union (SU) which offers a wide range of health and lifestyle programmes, volunteer opportunities, awards, and facilities. There are around 293 university clubs, and students can get involved in special events and celebrations such as NogFest, Frostbite, Bermuda Shorts Day, Faculty Wars, Cinemania, and free yoga lessons.

Calgary is one of the safest, friendliest and cleanest cities in the world. The city plays host to several major sports teams including the NHL's Calgary Flames, the CFL's Calgary Stampeders and NLL's Calgary Roughnecks. Music lovers, arts aficionados and festival-goers will be kept busy year round. A vibrant local music scene means live music every night, even when major headliners are not in town. There is also ballet, opera, musicals, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, art galleries, theatres, museums and many special events throughout the year. Major international festivals like the Calgary Folk Fest draw huge crowds and are favourites among Calgarians.
