Placement Supervisor for Beds & Herts and Senior Clinical Pharmacist, Bedford Hospital
Jane did her Pharmacy degree at Nottingham from 1985-1988 and then her pre-reg year at North Tyneside District General in North Shields. She then became a resident pharmacist at Leicester Royal Infirmary for 3 years, gaining her Diploma (with distinction!) during this time. Jane then moved to Stevenage in 1992 where she managed the Pharmacy stores and Purchasing and was the medical directorate pharmacist.
Whilst at Stevenage, Jane became involved with formulary work just before moving to Bedford Hospital in 1998 to take on the role of Deputy Chief Pharmacist, Education and Training lead. Jane also acted as Pre-reg Manager and Patient Safety lead, chairing the Trust’s Medication Safety group. After a 3-year period out of pharmacy (from 2011-2013) Jane was lured back to work as a Bank Pharmacist at Bedford hospital.
The Placement supervisor role was advertised in the spring of 2015 and looked like a job written for Jane – to combine her passion for education and training as well as supporting new pharmacists and their tutors. Her current roles as placement supervisor for all hospitals in Beds & Herts, involves travelling across the geography to support people in their place of work and also contribute to the design and delivery of the residential study programme. Jane has built excellent relationships with the pre-reg managers/tutors and trainees at all hospitals in Beds and Herts. Jane said: “It has been an exciting and interesting year and I’m sure will continue to be so for 2016/17 and beyond”.
