Biography

 

Saurabh grew up in Mumbai, India and came to England to study for his undergraduate degree, obtaining a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in 2008. He then undertook his PhD in cancer research followed by a two-year postdoc position at UCLan. His work there was on determining the in vitro effects of various novel compounds for the treatment of glioma by investigating structural activity relationships (SAR) and finding their mechanism of action. His research interests include novel therapeutics for cancer, anti-inflammatory compounds, natural antioxidants and reactive oxygen species mediated cellular death.

Saurabh's current work at UEA focuses on investigating SAR of flavonoid metabolites, using a pharmaceutical-based approach. He is currently working as a senior research associate in Professor Maria O’Connell’s research group. The research involves investigating the mechanisms of action of metabolites of commonly consumed flavonoids metabolites (target molecules: glucuronide, sulfate and glycine conjugates of vanillic, ferulic and hydroxybenzoic acid); and unnatural analogues of these metabolites in vascular and inflammatory cell models.
