Norwich students learn about Taxol and Pharmacy
Dr Zoë Waller and Dr Paul McDermott have been busy this January, visiting schools in Norwich to talk about Pharmacy, using the story of the development of Taxol as a case study.
Dr Zoë Waller, a Lecturer in Chemical Biology, gave a talk at Sir Isaac Newton sixth form and Dr Paul McDermott, a lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry visited Notre Dame High School. The talks gave an introduction to Pharmacy as a profession and used the discovery of Taxol to highlight the different cognate areas within Pharmacy as a subject.
Zoë says “there are many misconceptions about both Pharmacy as a subject and the drug development process. The lectures we give aim to show the diversity of the subject, from discovering a novel anti-cancer compound, right the way through to patient care”.
