I am currently a lecturer in Quantitative Methods in the Norwich Business School. I am a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, experienced in accounts preparation and audit in both small and large organisations. I graduated from the University of Lancaster with a first class degree in Mathematics and then trained as a Chartered Accountant, first with Ernst & Whinney (now part of Ernst & Young) and then KPMG . I have experience of accounts preparation for small/medium sized companies and also external auditing within the financial sector. I joined UEA in 1992 as an Associate Tutor in the School of Mathematics and transferred to the School of Management( now Norwich Business School) in 2001 first as an Associate Tutor and then a Lecturer.
I am co-author of the text ‘quantitative methods for business, management & finance' together with Louise Swift. The text is currently in its fourth edition and is intended for first-year university and higher education courses in Quantitative Methods, but it will also be useful for MBA and masters courses.
Key Research Interests
I am not actively researching but my main interests are in all aspects of mathematics education and the teaching of quantitative methods to Social Science students in higher education
I am currently teaching modules ‘Developing Business Skills' and ‘Quantitative Methods for Business' on the undergraduate programme. I have previous experience of teaching financial and management accounting. I also provide support for students requiring additional assistance with their basic numerical skills.
I have also supervised the dissertation process undertaken by masters students.
External Activities and Indicators of Esteem
I became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) in November 1986.
I have previous involvement in the Young Enterprise programme as well as some liaison with school teachers through a Teachers network.
Associate Director of Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing (formerly Director of Admissions) As such I provide support for the Director of Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing in coordinating and implementing the School's admissions policy. This includes outreach activity to schools and colleges and coordinating and managing Visit days and Open days.
