Biography

I am a Senior Lecturer in Business and Management, Director of Employability, Director of Enterprise and formerly the Associate Director for Learning and Teaching Quality within NBS. I have joined UEA from the University of Southampton where I spent six years of my fifteen year academic career. I originally worked in manufacturing management and since 2000 I have combined a portfolio career in academia and management consultancy which enables me to bring real world business examples into the classroom and cutting edge research into industry. In 2013 I completed a PhD in Business Performance Management in UK Housing Associations.

I have taught strategic management, entrepreneurship and operations management on UG, PG and Executive MBA programmes in leading universities.

I maintain strong links with industry through consulting and my role as an Enterprise Coordinator working with a diverse portfolio of organisations from global financial institutions to SMEs to non-profit organisations. My areas of specialism are strategic facilitation, business performance management frameworks, process improvement and business coaching. I was also a judge for the Institute of Consulting awards in 2009 held at the Langham Hotel in London.

I have been nominated for and won several awards for research and enterprise including: Best KTP for the South West of England (2008), an Emerald Literati Award for an  Outstanding Journal Paper (2008), a shortlisted finalist for the ESRC Michael Young Early Career Researcher Award (2009), nominated for an Excellence in Teaching Award for an Outstanding Lecturer (2013), winner of the Best Developmental Paper in Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Management at BAM (2015) and winner of the Best Paper Award in the Entrepreneurship SIG at EURAM (2017).

I have led and been a co-investigator on international projects with academics from top globally ranked universities such as the University of Queensland, Australia; Monash University, Australia; University of Southampton, UK; and University of Otago, New Zealand.  The outputs include World Leading and Internationally Excellent publications. I have been a visiting academic at Bournemouth University, BPP University and I am currently a visiting academic at University of Sofia, Bulgaria.

During my academic career, I have secured over £175,000 of funding in research, enterprise and pedagogical activities. This has included employer sponsored employability prizes, an area that I am passionate about.

Key Research Interests

Performance Management and Leadership within Social Housing

I am working on publications from my PhD research into leadership challenges and corporate performance management within Housing Associations in England and Wales. The research investigates the pervasive changes within the sector following the global financial crisis (GFC) including regulatory reform, benefit reform, financial restructuring and the Big Society.

 Social Housing Bond Funding

Since the GFC, housing associations have faced a rapidly changing environment. This project examines the increased use of capital markets to fund social housing provision and maintenance in the UK. The study seeks to investigate contemporary issues and challenges in this market as it evolves and adapts following the GFC, in addition to changes in welfare budgets and regulation. This research is being undertaken in collaboration with colleagues at Royal Hollloway, University of London, UK.

 Supply Chain Performance

Working on a collaborative research project looking at lean supply chain performance within SMEs. This project specifically looks at a multiple case study investigation within the defence aviation industry. The research is being undertaken in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Kent, UK and the University of Padua, Italy.

 Leadership in Social Enterprises

Investigating follower and leader behaviour in a dyadic study involving case studies in Australia, the United Kingdom and Canada. The project is being undertaken with colleagues from Monash University, Deakin University and Swinburne University, Australia.

Management Consulting Book to be Published in 2017 (Routledge)

Lead editor of edited book with colleagues from UEA, UK and Bradford University, UK. Includeds contributions from academics and international consultancy practices from around the world. Co-author of three chapters.
