I was appointed as Lecturer in Business Law in March 2011, having first joined the Business School as an Associate Tutor four years earlier. I am passionate about teaching and the importance of education generally, and teach law over a wide range of areas relevant to Business Management. I hold a first class Law Degree (LLB Hons), a Diploma in English Law (Dip. Eng. Law), a Masters (MA) in Arts Management, and a Masters (LLM) in Employment Law from UEA Law School. I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the CIPD.
In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I am acting head of the Business Regulation Group and a member of the Senate Student Disciplinary Committee. I am also Plagiarism Officer for NBS, and as such, my role is to educate students in referencing and avoiding plagiarism, and to investigate any cases of suspected plagiarism brought to my attention by other lecturers in the School.
My background is in the arts, having trained originally as a ceramic sculptor, and have successfully sold my figurative sculpture in galleries throughout the South East of England. I have extensive management and marketing experience in theatres, galleries and arts organisations, and have also worked in the healthcare sector.
My outside professional activities are inspired by my belief that everyone should have equal access to the law regardless of status or ability to pay, and I take a strong interest in employment law, human rights and disability issues. I also work for the Ministry of Justice as an Employment Tribunal Panel Member, and sit on tribunals in Norwich, Bury St Edmunds and Huntingdon.
I have an interest in alternative dispute resolution and, as a civil and commercial mediator (accredited with ADR Group), have conducted mediations in a variety of disputes. I also have extensive experience as a volunteer for Citizens' Advice, advising on a range of issues including debt, employment law, consumer law, housing, and benefits.
Key Research Interests
I undertake legal research on an on-going basis to update and invigorate my teaching materials, and my principle interests lie in access to justice for vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society, particularly in the employment sphere.
I am currently researching the issue of costs and how this impacts on justice in employment tribunals.
