Before you can fully comprehend management and change in organisations, you first need to come to terms with human behaviour. This is fundamental to a manager’s personal effectiveness, the effectiveness of those they manage, and, ultimately, a manager’s career progression. In turn, understanding behaviour and change is also strongly linked to human resources management, together with aspects of operations management and strategic management. Accordingly, the course is divided into two major sections: Fundamentals of managing people and Leadership, Culture, Change & High Performance.
Aims and Objectives
On completion of this module, you will be able to:
Introduce notions of managing people and organisational change, encompassing relevant theories of human behaviour in the workplace
Apply concepts to real managerial practice
Assess the relationship between various theories of behaviour and change and management practice, utilising personal experiences of management practice and analysis of research evidence.
You will leave with an excellent understanding of the theories that underpin an evidence-based approach to managing people and organisational change. Applying these ideas will enhance your own personal effectiveness as a manager, as well as the effectiveness of those you manage. In addition, you will be equipped to offer a constructive critique of major concepts concerning human behaviour in the workplace, and make informed judgements on the most appropriate theories to apply when solving problems and making key decisions within this environment.
