No strategy, no leadership. No leadership, no success. Strategy really is that fundamental to an organisation. Whether a start up, SME or a public sector body, strategy comes first. Once a business gets that right, everything else falls into place. Using theoretical frameworks, together with real world examples, this module examines why strategy is critical, providing an appreciation of strategic development, strategic management, and an insight into developing sound strategy in a complex environment. Sustaining a competitive advantage in a crowded market is key, and having a strategic edge means an organisation can create the future, one in which you lead and others play catch-up. We will also ask whether leaders have the sole right to create their own strategy, or do the opinions of others now influence their options and choices?

Aims and Objectives

On completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Understand why strategy is important

  • Comprehend the different schools of strategy (including different levels of strategy) and the strategic management process

  • Analyse competitive strategies and understand the nature of competitive advantage

  • Recognise the key analytical tools in strategy and strategic management

  • Develop insight into international strategy

  • Acknowledge the role of leadership in delivering change

  • Appreciate leadership in different environments

  • Prepare a strategic plan for an organisation

  • Display confidence in developing and leading people to a better future.

Learning Outcomes

You will learn how to think strategically before you take action. By using sound judgement, you will be a confident leader who is sure of the path ahead and able to positively progress an organisation.
