The focus of the Department of Nutrition is on contemporary public health problems, chronic diseases that are responsive to diet, and nutritional issues associated with the ageing population. The research spans from fundamental mechanistic studies to intervention and population-based studies.

Key areas of research interest include:

  • flavonoids and cardiometabolic health

  • n-3 fatty acids and the cardiometabolic phenotype

  • diet and age-related cognitive decline

  • diet-gene interactions

  • determinants of flavonoid absorption and metabolism

  • benefits and risks of dietary isothiocyanates
