Biography

I'm a Consultant Psychiatrist specialised in management of mental health problems in adults and older adults (dual training). I am a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) since February 2013.

My main interests in psychiatry are: neuro-psychiatric disorders, epidemiology of mental illness, mental illness representation in media, neuro-developmental disorders (adult ADHD and autism) and physical health in mental illness.

I'm also interested in cultural aspects of psychiatry and management of mental health problems in refugees and people exposed to trauma during conflict and war.

I'm involved in research projects and published several papers on the epidemiology of psychosis in East Anglia (SEPEA study: http://www.sepea.org/).

I'm also involved in teaching the ing of medical students during their placement in Psychiatry and I regularly give lectures and seminars on mental health problems in adults and older adults.

I am currently a postgraduate student in the UEA studying PG Diploma in Clinical Education.

I use social media to educate the public (especially from the Arabic speaking countries) on mental health. My Facebook page (@arabpsychiatry) has more than 3.6k followers and I produce educational videos regularly on various mental health topics.

I'm originally from Iraq and living in East Anglia, England.
