Key Research Interests

I am a translational integrated cardiovascular physiologist. My major areas of interest are:

  • cardiac energetic impairment and the role of novel therapies targeting this energetic impairment in heart muscle diseases

  • ventriculo-ventricular and ventriculo-vascular interaction as well as their role in cardiac dysfunction in the failing heart

  • the epidemiology, pathophysiology and therapy of Heart Failure with Preserved Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction

Professional Activities

  • Member of the BHF Chair and Programme Grants Committee, Academy of Medical Sciences Starter Grants Panel (and previously, sectional committee for award of Fellowships)

  • Previous member of the MRC Population and Systems Medicine Board and current member of the MRC Oversight Group of the UK Dementia Platform

  • Medical Schools Council representative on the Clinical Staff Advisory Group of the University and College Employers Association

  • Cardiovascular Editor, Journal of Physiology

Administrative Posts
