Biography

Emilian I. Parau is a Reader in Applied Mathematics. He obtained his BSc in Mathematics  from the West University of Timisoara, Romania and a MSc(equiv.) in Applied Mathematics in Fluid Mechanics  from the same university within a TEMPUS programme in collaboration with some French Universities. He received his PhD in Mathematics in 2000 from University of  Nice Sophia Antipolis and  West University of Timisoara. His research focuses on free surface flows, nonlinear water waves, interfacial and hydroelastic waves. Emilian Parau is interested in solving nonlinear partial differential equation arising in fluid mechanics and free boundary problems using computational, asymptotic and dynamical systems methods.

Key Research Interests

I work on various aspects of fluid mechanics, particularly related to interfacial and free-surface flows. I am interested in nonlinear differential equation problems arising in fluid mechanics, examining solutions using computational, asymptotic and dynamical systems methods. Some of the particular topics which I studied are the solitary waves generated by a moving load on top of an ice plate, interfacial and free-surface periodic gravity waves, spiralling liquid jets, three-dimensional gravity waves generated by moving disturbances. Recent research results include the computation of fully localised solitary-wave solutions of the three-dimensional gravity-capillary water-wave problem.
