Biography

I completed a batchelor degree in Physics and a master degree in Theoretical Physics at the Università degli Studi di Torino in Italy. There I also obtained my PhD in Physics supervised by Prof. Miguel Onorato on a project entitled "Turbulence in open systems: a weakly nonlinear approach". Before being appointed lecturer at UEA School of Mathematics, I continued to work in Torino with Prof. Miguel Onorato as a postdoctorate research fellow on the project "Extreme Seas" funded by the European Commission.

Key Research Interests

I am currently a lecturer in applied mathematics but my background is in theoretical physics. My research focuses on nonlinear systems with many degrees of freedom like fluids. In particular, I study out-of-equilibrium states by using different mathematical approach coming from turbulence, wave-turbulence and integrable systems, and by performing numerical simulations.

Most of my research is devoted to particular types of fluids called superfluids and Bose-Einstein condensates. There, I focus on topological defects called quantum vortices which may have complex dynamics, different topological properties and lead to superfluid (or quantum) turbulence. I also have strong interests in ocean waves dynamics, ranging from weakly interacting waves to strong coherent structures like solitons and breathers (prototypes of rogue waves). Additionally, my wider research is in other nonlinear systems, like the Boltzmann equation used in the kinetic theory of gases and the Fermi-Pasta-Ulam problem.

I am part of the group of Quantum Fluids operating at UEA School of Mathematics. 

Teaching Interests

I lecture at the UEA School of Mathematics the first year course on Probability (part of the module Sets, numbers and probability) and the optional second/third year topic on Special Relativity (part of the module Topics in Mathematics).
