Biography

Dr Agol gained her PhD at the School of International Development and, during her studies, undertook roles within the School as both an Associate Tutor and Researcher. Since gaining her PhD Dr Agol has continued to maintain academic and professional links with the School and has been given the honorary title of External Research Fellow to recognise this continued academic association.


Dorice has several years’ experience managing and implementing community-based projects for NGOs and government parastatals mainly in East Africa.  She has managed projects with various themes which include Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Dry-land Ecosystem Management, Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Income Generation for Livelihoods Improvement, Solid Waste Management and Environmental Education.

She recently managed a research project for Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) where she explored the role of international market standards for sustainable water management and biodiversity conservation within horticultural and floricultural export producers in Kenya.

Academic Background

Dorice is an interdisciplinary scientist with a background in biological and social sciences. She gained her PhD in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) at the School of International Development, University of East Anglia. Her research explored the opportunities and challenges of implementing a coordinated planning and management of land and water to meet socio-economic and environmental objectives in Lake Victoria Basin.

Her master’s degree was by research at the University of Leicester, UK where she researched ecological restoration of the Norfolk Broads, Eastern England.  The research was sponsored by the Environment Agency. Her undergraduate degree was in Environmental Sciences at the University of Southampton, UK.
