Course Director - International Development with Anthropology
Welcome to Anthropology at UEA. We offer an exciting and dynamic degree programme that draws on the research of our anthropologists, covering areas as diverse as gender relations and social change, the role of religion in development, migration and food, education and literacy inequalities, language diversity and interculturalism, and well-being and chronic poverty. Our research spans the globe to include Oceania, South Asia, Sub-Sahara Africa and Latin America. My own research on the impact of mining and oil extraction projects on indigenous populations is concerned with the specificities of social change in remote regions where development is an ancillary and consequential by-product of the global demand for minerals, metals and energy. Combined our research contributes to critical debates on the human beneficiaries of international development.
