An ethnographic exploration of the experiences of people with dementia and their carers living at home in using assistive technology
Assistive technology and telecare are designed to help people with dementia remain independent at home, but there may be unforeseen challenges to their implementation and use. My MPhil/PhD research is an ethnography which explores how and why people with dementia and their carers may use assistive technology and telecare as part of their daily routines at home through the use participant observation and conversational interviews. The study is linked to the ongoing national ATTILA trial which examines the ability of assistive technology to maintain the independence of people with dementia at home and is funded by the NIHR’s Health Technology Assessment programme.
