We work closely with a number of local and national organisations and businesses. Besides generating work and study opportunities for students this enables staff to share their research and teaching expertise with audiences beyond the University, and also ensures we keep in step with the latest developments in the UK and international media industries. Recent and current projects involving our staff include:
- Providing consultancy and / or training services to external organisations including BFI, Skillset, Prescience Film Finance, Rainy Day Films, Pearson Education, Creative England, Norfolk & Suffolk Constabulary, Norfolk County Council.
- Working with commercial organisations including DVD distributors and film exhibitors to share expertise and research with non-specialist audiences
- Securing funding for academic research projects which build connections with TV industry practitioners and organisations. Current examples include the AHRC project, ‘Make Me Laugh' which studies creativity in the British TV comedy industry and the ‘Manga to Movies Project' which focuses on contemporary Japanese media production.
Work Placements and Internships
As part of their degree, second year students can apply to take a media internship module that centres around a work placement with a carefully selected local company or organisation. This gives you the chance to experience what it is like to work within media and cultural organisations, applying what you have learnt during their degree so far and helping enhance their employability skills. Recent students have had placements with Lambda Films, CinemaPlus, Ethecomm, Proxama and Future Radio, amongst others.
