Key Research Interests

Since the beginning of my studies I have been interested in marine biogeochemistry.

Currently I am investigating the role played by dissolved organic matter (DOM) and transparent exopolymer particle (TEP) production in the continental shelf seas during the condition of “carbon overconsumption”.

In order to address this object I am using two approaches.

Firstly, focusing on fieldwork and measurement in order to understand the distribution and role played by TEP in the North Sea and quantify carbon overconsumption.

Secondly, deriving new parameterisations for the representation of TEP and missing forms of DOM in the European Regional Seas Ecosystem Model(ERSEM) and studying the role of the microbial carbon pump in carbon export in shelf seas.
