The Microscope suite is equipped with a wide range of microscopes:
- several Wild, Leitz and Nikon microscopes with magnification up to 50, using reflected (M5, M5A, M8, Leitz orthoplan) or transmitted (M5, M40, Leitz orthoplan, Nikon Optishot) light. A digital camera can be used with the Leitz orthoplan and the Nikon Optishot.
- a MK5-1 optical cathodoluminescence system built by Cambridge Image Technology and installed on a Nikon Labphot 2 is available for rock slide observations. Magnification x5 & x10.
- a Leica stereomicroscope, model MZ7.5, with integrated digital imaging systems, image management software and integrated analogue video camera. Magnifications from x6 to x50. This microscope is also equipped with a LED ringlight providing homogenous shadow free daylight illumination.
- a Leica petrology microscope, model DM2500 M, with integrated a fluorescence unit , digital imaging systems, image management software and integrated analogue video camera. Magnification from x2.5 to x40.
