This provides an integrated environment that ensures that:
- Students are directly involved, through the Staff Student Liaison Committee and the School Board, in the evolution of the School's activities and its policies.
- Staff are keen to recognise the individual needs of their students.
This union of staff and student in the pursuit of clarity and quality nurtures the learning environment of the school. This is enhanced further by the School's policy of investing in staff primarily known for their teaching expertise. Unsurprisingly, Economics at UEA has been recognised at a national level for the quality of their teaching, and has been in receipt of multiple awards from the Higher Education Academy that reward teaching success.
Dr Duncan Watson, a Reader in Economics with a teaching focus, was the first appointment of its kind at the University. He says:
"I came to Economics at UEA because of its reputation for prioritising and achieving the research-inspired student experience that other universities have not been able to deliver. Since my time here I've been very impressed by the staff's commitment, enthusiasm and innovation. Excellent teaching practice is the norm, not the exception".
