BA BUSINESS MANAGEMENT WITH A YEAR IN INDUSTRY
BA BUSINESS MANAGEMENT WITH A YEAR IN INDUSTRY
At NBS we believe that exceptional management is all about balancing hard and soft skills. That means understanding numbers and how to use them, and how to finance an organisation. It also means understanding people, how they behave and why they behave as they do. On this course you will become adept at this difficult balancing act. We also believe that anyone can become a great manager, no matter what their background is, so our course is inclusive and welcoming to all.
You’ll begin with a broad first year where you’ll explore a wide range of business roles and skills. In your second and third years you’ll have a lot of freedom to choose optional modules that let you delve deeper and specialise in the areas that fascinate you most. For example, modules such as Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management will prepare you to start your own business or continue on to Master’s level study.
You will have the chance to hone your qualitative and quantitative capabilities, at the same time as learning how to work with people, building your reflective skills, and your ability to look at yourself and your own work critically.
At UEA we focus on evidence-based management. You’ll learn to pose questions and challenge assumptions, as well as how to use evidence to make your own decisions and then back them up. You will develop quantitative and qualitative skills, learning how to deal with numbers and accounts, and how to interpret statistics, as well as how to manage people and resources. You’ll also gain experience working with others and presenting your findings and ideas – invaluable practice for your career, when you’ll need to not only develop solutions to problems but also persuade people of their validity.
NBS is a friendly and supportive school, with a lively and international cohort. We are in a region that’s safe and welcoming, with a thriving business innovation and enterprise community. All our teaching is informed by our world-leading research and real-world business experience. That means you’ll gain knowledge of the latest issues and debates facing industry and employers.
In the Guardian University Guide 2020, we are ranked in the top 10 for Accounting and Finance and top 15 for Business, Management and Marketing. We were ranked top 15 for Marketing in The Complete University Guide 2020 and were 9th for the quality of our research and 17th overall in the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF 2014) which looked at 101 institutions across the UK. UEA has been awarded a Gold for teaching excellence (TEF, 2017).
Our current research interests include finance, accounting, employment systems and institutions, responsible business regulation, marketing, entrepreneurship and business strategy, and innovation, technology and operations management.
