This standalone, 40 credit, Level 7, continuing professional development module focuses on the fundamentals of General Practice for nurses and allied health professionals (NHSE, 2017- General Practice – Developing Confidence, Capability and Capacity: A Ten Point Plan). It equips nurses and allied health care professionals new to General Practice with the knowledge and skills required to work effectively in this setting.
Students should have access to an experienced general practice nurse/AHP to support and assess their learning and development in practice including the completion of identified clinical competencies (RCGP/RCN 2015).
The teaching strategy incorporates a mixture of lectures, practical sessions where appropriate, reflective approaches and work-based learning.
This module advances your professional development by drawing on the four pillars of advanced practice: management and leadership, education, research and advanced clinical practice. It reinforces the core principle that advanced practice is a level of practice rather than a particular role.
