You will need the support of a prospective supervisor to apply for studentship funding, and we strongly recommend that contact is made with possible supervisors as early as possible in the process, ideally by the autumn of 2021.
Stage 1: Apply for a place at UEA
All students who wish to apply for Faculty studentship funding must use our University of East Anglia online application form to apply to study here by midday on 12 January 2022.
We recommend that students use the CHASE guidance (including headings and word counts) for structuring their research proposal – this will save the need to rewrite the proposal for CHASE.
(Current PhD students do not of course need to submit this application, but must submit a CHASE application as below)
Stage 2: Application for a Faculty studentship
To be considered for a Faculty studentship, applicants must apply for either CHASE (AHRC) or SeNSS (ESRC) funding, by the relevant deadline:
- SeNSS application deadline – midday on 25 January 2022.
- CHASE application deadline – midday on 28 January 2022.
Applications will be considered within one of the four Schools of study making up UEA’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
Successful applicants can expect to be contacted by 30 April 2022, although late offers are possible, for example, if a studentship offer-holder should withdraw for some reason.
Alternative funding sources
Other sources of funding are available, including doctoral loans – please see our Fees and Funding pages for details.
