FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES STUDENTSHIP (SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK)

2:1 in a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in a relevant field of study, including at least 65% or equivalent overall in the Master’s degree. 

If English is not your first language or you are from a country that is not on the UKRI list of English-speaking countries, you may be required to provide evidence of your proficiency in the English language. The studentship covers full tuition fees for Home or International students, a tax-free maintenance grant equivalent to UKRI studentship rates (currently £17,668) and a research training support grant (currently £750 per year).

There are a small number of funded 1+3 Faculty of Social Sciences studentships, providing funding for an eligible Master’s followed by a PhD where a candidate requires more research training prior to commencing their PhD. There is no separate application process for this additional funding, which is awarded following a Faculty-wide competition, based on recommendations from Schools. Funding for a Master’s component of research training is based on an academic judgement of a candidate’s research training needs. This studentship also covers fees and a maintenance grant at standard UKRI rates. This parallels the SENSS studentship scheme.

To be considered for a +3 studentship please submit your application for PhD via our application system, indicating that you wish to be considered for a studentship in the funding section of the application. 

To be considered for a 1+3 studentship, please submit separate applications for a Masters course and PhD, indicating within the funding section of the PhD application that you wish to be considered for a 1+3 studentship.
