Career History

Mark started his career as an electronics apprentice with the Royal Radar Establishment, Malvern (http://college-of-electronics.org/), before reading Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Aston University. After graduating he joined Ferranti Computer Systems, Underwater Systems Group, Cheadle Heath, Manchester (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thales_Underwater_Systems#Cheadle_Heath). He returned to academia to study Microprocessor Engineering and Digital Electronics at UMIST and remained as a research assistant within the Department of Computation to gain a PhD in Applied Machine Learning. As a lecturer, Mark established a Machine Vision Research Group at Coventry Polytechnic before moving to UEA in 1998. His research interests now focus on medical image understanding and analysis and he has co-authored nearly 100 publications on applications of computer vision and image analysis in engineering, biosciences and medicine.

PhD Projects

Mark is keen to hear from prospective postgraduate students with interests in computer vision.
