Career History

George spent a year at University College Dublin, as a Research Associate working on a project entitled 'The magnetohydrodynamics of nematic liquid crystals'.

In 1978, he returned to UEA as a Senior Research Associate working on a series of projects modelling large ice sheets and their interaction with the climate. As a result of the strong computing element of these projects, George became more and more interested in the science of computing, eventually accepting a lectureship in Computing at the University of East Anglia. I am now a Senior Lecturer in Computing at UEA.

Academic Background

George gained a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from Herriot-Watt University in 1974, he moved to Norwich to do an MSc in Theoretical Mechanics at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and stayed on to complete a PhD under the supervision of Peter Chadwick FRS.
