Project: Promoting Security: Attachment for foster care and adoption

Funder: Esmée Fairbairn Foundation

Dates: 2004-2006

Research team: Professor Gillian Schofield and Mary Beek, in partnership with John Simmonds (BAAF) Jeanne Kaniuk (Coram Adoption) and Miriam Steele (Anna Freud Clinic and University College London - then New School University, New York).

This research dissemination and practice development project was based on findings from the Growing up in Foster Care project. In particular, it allowed for the development of the Secure Base model.

The project funded the development not only of a substantial text book, but also a DVD and training programme – developed not only in partnership with key agencies but through collaboration with foster carers, adopters, and fostered and adopted young people.
