Norwich is less than two hours from London by train and there is an InterCity rail links with the Midlands, the North of England and Scotland via Peterborough. Greater Anglia trains run from London Liverpool Street station approximately every half hour. Note that discount tickets are often available if purchased before the day of travel and can be significantly cheaper - but will only be posted to UK addresses - see Raileasy's website for more information. The easiest way to reach UEA from the station is by taxi, which costs less than £10 and takes approximately 15 minutes. There are also regular Norwich city buses direct to the University from the station forecourt (numbers 25 or 26). Rail enquiries: (+44) (0)8457 484950.
You will usually find taxis waiting at the railway station and at designated ‘taxi ranks’ in the city centre. You can also stop a taxi in the street by waving your arm when its yellow 'For Hire' sign is illuminated. Taxis must display a notice which shows their licence and the number of passengers they are allowed to carry. The amount of money you pay for your journey is calculated by a meter which should be clearly visible inside the taxi. Fares are more expensive in the evenings, at weekends and during public holidays. Any gratuity you wish to give is in addition to this amount.
Minicab or private hire cars are pre-booked taxis. These are often cheaper and don’t have meters so you should set the price before travelling. When you book a car you will need to say where you want picking up and taking to. If you are catching a train/plane you can tell them what time you depart and ask their advice about a suitable pick-up time.
