The Union of UEA Students provides a very broad range of opportunities for students to engage socially, develop their confidence and increase their self awareness.

In a typical academic year there are well over 100 societies, ranging from School related groups through economics, politics, music and beyond.  In addition to the social experience gained through active membership are the opportunities to take on roles of president, treasurer or secretary. If well articulated, these types of responsibility add weight to any application and are usually taken seriously by employers. Sports clubs also offer excellent opportunities to experience interacting in teams and playing competitively.

The Union also runs (and helps students to run) an extensive programme of training events to improve the operation of societies and clubs; subjects include communication and negotiation, chairing effective meetings and participatory decision making.

Furthermore, Union initiatives can help to develop students moral and ethical awareness and development, through campaigning and related activities.

These activities are often under-recognised yet contribute to the development of the well-rounded, self aware and self confident graduate that is so in demand in the labour market.
