Please explain how your career has developed since graduating.
I started a new Professional Institute, the Institute of Carbon Accountants and Traders - ICAT. I am its Chairman, I have a Chief Executive and a Director. We are the first professional institute for carbon accountants and emissions traders in the world.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your current role or your greatest career achievement so far?
The most rewarding aspect of doing what I did is that we are the first. We are the first in the world and I don't have any competition. We are developing products and service that other professional institutes don't.
What are the key skills you learnt at UEA?
Every module I undertook on my Masters, gave me skills I did not have. This was because it was on a subject: Strategic Carbon Management, on which I had little or no information. Now I do and its opened up a whole new world and a world of potential.
How have these skills or your course made a difference in your career?
The Masters allowed me to start the Institute of Carbon Accountants & Traders - ICAT, without it I would never have conceived the idea, developed or launched the business. ICAT is having a wide impact on local, regional, national & international business.
Why did you choose to study at UEA rather than another institution?
Timing is probably how I would describe it. Right programme, right funding support, right subject - ground breaking, innovative and fascinating subject at a time I was looking to future proof my career, or at least extend it into an emerging area.
Do you have any tips or advice for current students or recent graduates?
Every module you study can create an opportunity; every new person you meet can/will create the potential for collaboration, friendship and wider networking opportunities. Finally, your ability to achieve is restricted by your own mind and or imagination.
