Guidelines for Short-listed Candidates

These guidelines are intended to assist you in attending an interview or selection event. Please read them carefully beforehand.

Access to the Campus

If you are offered a post here at UEA, the Human Resources Division will send you an application form which you can use to apply for a Campus Card in time for your start date. Campus Cards are processed by the Library and allow you access to the Library and IT, email services and car parking. Once you have accepted a post, the Human Resources Division will send you a link to the Estates Division transport web pages which will provide you with directions to the university, transport options and information on how to register your vehicle if you wish to access the car park.

Your first day at UEA

Your manager will keep in contact with you to make sure you know where to report on your first day and the time you are expected to arrive. On your first day you may need to visit the Human Resources Division to present documentation showing your entitlement to work in the UK and information regarding this will be provided in your offer pack.

Induction

In your first few days your manager will introduce you to your area of work and your new colleagues. Your manager will provide you with information about the University, clarify the requirements and objectives of your new role, and discuss any immediate training or development activities. For some roles, new members of staff are assigned a mentor or buddy who will help guide you into your new role and life on campus.

The Centre for Staff and Educational Development (CSED) invites all new members of staff to an Introductory Morning with presentations from a range of UEA departments and an introduction to campus facilities.

Pay and Pension

If you are offered a post here at UEA, the Human Resources Division will send you information on how to make an appointment with our Payroll & Pensions office to arrange payment of your salary, and information regarding the USS pension scheme.

Probation

All new appointments at UEA are subject to a period of probation, the length of which will vary according to the terms and conditions associated with your type of contact. Your manager will be able to guide you on the requirements of your role and the expected standard of performance, and to discuss any immediate training or development needs. For roles where new starters are required to undertake formal training or courses of study further information will be provided in the offer pack. For some roles, new starters will be assigned an advising colleague or mentor to provide support and guidance in fulfilling the requirements of the role.

DBS online payment

You will receive notification from the Human Resources Office if you are required to undertake a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Payment for the cost of the check can be made using our online payment facility.
