Parental Leave Guidelines

Parental leave is available to give parents of children, including adopted children, the right to take a period of time off work to look after a child or make arrangements for the child's welfare. Parents can use it to spend more time with children and strike a better balance between their work and family commitments. Read the Parental Leave Guidelines.

Parental Bereavement Leave and Pay Guidelines

Parental bereavement leave is a legal entitlement for the bereaved parents of a child (under the age of 18) who passes away on or after 6 April 2020 or parents who suffer a stillbirth after 24 weeks of pregnancy. Each bereaved parent can take one- or two-weeks’ parental bereavement leave for a child who has passed away. The leave can be taken in two blocks of one week or one two-week block within 56 weeks of the date of the death of the child. This is a “day one” right, meaning that there is no minimum period of service to qualify for bereavement leave. Employees will continue to receive normal pay during parental bereavement leave. Further details can be found in the Parental Bereavement Leave and Pay Guidelines.
