WHY CHOOSE HOKKAIDO

Hokkaido University (Hokudai for short) is one of the national universities of Japan. It is a member of the National Seven Universities, which were established as the best national higher education or research institutes. It is located in downtown Sapporo, just north of Sapporo Station, and stretching approximately 2.4 km northwards. Hokudai was originally founded in 1876 and is considered as one of the top universities in Japan.

Compared to other parts of Japan the island of Hokkaido is particularly blessed by nature. In addition to a World Heritage Site, Hokkaido also has six national parks, a World Geopark and 12 nature parks. Hokkaido also boasts a total of 12 wetlands attracting a vast array of birdlife, and is covered with approximately 70% forest. Sapporo is known for its cold, snowy winters and winter sports and popular here. Every February tourists flock to the city for the Snow Festival where there are snow sculptures, snow slides and snowball fights. Outside of the snow festival there is plenty for outdoor lovers, much of Hokkaido is wild and unspoiled, with natural hot springs, volcanic lakes and wildlife.

For those who prefer city living, Sapporo still has plenty of offer with a thriving food scene, stylish cafes, neon-lit nightlife and shopping galore. Sapporo provides an excellent quality of life and the cost of living is generally more reasonable than that of other major cities in Japan.
