Background
Roger Baines received his degree in French Studies from the University of
Warwick, this was followed by several years living and working in Paris,
notably for Marks and Spencer SA and Sock Shop SARL, and teaching English at
the University of Nantes and the IUT de Paris. On returning to the UK, he
obtained the Diploma in Translation from the Institute of Linguists and his PhD
on the work of Pierre Mac Orlan from the University of Nottingham. Prior to
coming to the University of East Anglia in 1996, he taught French Studies at
the University of Reading.
Teaching

Research
Research interests include the pragmatics of conflict language in contemporary spoken French and theatre translation in performance.
