Interests

Anthropology and archaeology.  My research centers on the emergence of social complexity, Andean material culture and visual expression, and technology in pre-industrial societies. In terms of geography, I specialize in the prehistory of South America, with a focus on the Central Andes.  Works that are in print or forthcoming treat topics such as chronology, highland landscape use and cosmology, ancestor ceremonies, coast-highland interaction, and faunal analysis.
