Weather, Climate and Insurance in the UK - A PhD projectThis project was completed in July 2008, with the full thesis available here. I have subsequently moved to Swansea University, working on coastal flood risk associated with extreme extratropical cyclone. Visit my new homepage here. The research was carried out at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and funded by the Worshipful Company of Insurers (WCI). Supervision was kindly provided by Dr Stephen Dorling and Dr David Viner. These pages are designed to give a brief overview of my research and describe some of the other work going on in this field. The main focus of my research surrounds windstorm damage, more specifically European windstorms, or winter storms, and their effect on the UK. This is particularly topical following the recent impacts across Northern Europe of Windstorm Erwin. I am currently developing a windstorm model to simulate windstorm damage in the UK and associated insured loss. |
