Inside Child Protection: New developments in research and practice
Tuesday 5th July 2011, UEA London Study Centre, 102 Middlesex Street, London, E1 7EZ
Chair: Sue Berelowitz, Deputy Children’s Commissioner & Chief Executive of the Office of the Children’s Commissioner
Speakers: Dr Marian Brandon (UEA), Jeanette Cossar (UEA), Professor David Howe (UEA), Professor Kate Morris (University of Nottingham)
The 2011 Annual Conference of the Centre for Research on the Child and Family will focus on important messages from research on child protection. At a time when the Munro enquiry is preparing to deliver a new vision for the future of child protection, it is more than ever necessary to learn lessons from research. Insights from children, from families and from serious case reviews – from inside child protection – can be used to build models for practice. A key theme of the day will be the importance of sensitive, emotionally attuned practitioners and the centrality of relationships in keeping children safe.
This conference will be particularly relevant for social workers and managers working with assessment family support and child protection, for workers from independent and voluntary agencies, members of Local Children Safeguarding Boards, child mental health workers, children’s guardians, legal practitioners. It will also be of interest to professionals in adult mental health, and substance misuse services.
